It's Wildcat Wednesday! Every Wednesday, we will spotlight a member of the LR Wildcat family.

This week we are introducing you to Alicia Pope!

-----------------------------

Job Title:
3rd Grade Teacher

Tell us about your family (human and/or fur family):
My husband John spent 7 years as an Army Ranger before settling in Rogersville as a financial advisor for Edward Jones. We have two daughters Kaitlin and Bella. Kaitlin is currently a freshman at Drury University. She is wanting to go into Nursing. Bella is currently a 3rd grader. She loves to play basketball, volleyball, and softball. We also have two fur babies. They are chocolate labs named Sami Kay and Baker Mayfield. You might notice from our choice of pet names we are crazy about the Oklahoma Sooners. Our doorbell even rings the OU fight song. We had planned to get a new Lab each time the Sooners won the Heisman, but after winning again this year we decided we are going to have to find a new tradition.

How long have you been a teacher/worked in education?
This will be my 15th year in education.

How long have you worked for LR?
I have worked for LR for 13 years.

Why did you choose to work for LR?
My husband got a job in Rogersville so I applied for a position at the school district. I was truly happy at the school I was already teaching at so if I didn't get anything I was just going to driving back and forth. However, I did get a job and I was beyond blessed!! This is the best district ever!!!

What is your favorite thing about working for LR?
I think my favorite aspect of working at LR is that we truly are a family. We are here for each other through everything. It makes me so happy to come to work each day.

How did you know you wanted to be a teacher?
This may sound strange but I just always knew. I had some amazing teachers that inspired me and I hope to have that same effect on my students.

What's the greatest misconception about teachers?
The greatest misconception about teachers is that we like apples. :)

What stereotype about teachers is true?
New pens can make our whole day!

If you had to choose a different grade/subject to teach, what would it be?
I have taught 13 years in 3rd grade and it is my favorite. However I think if I had to choose a different grade it would be 4th grade.

What is something about you that might surprise people?
I have traveled to France, Australia, and New Zealand.

What is your favorite quote?
Education is the most powerful weapon to CHANGE THE WORLD!

What's the weirdest job you've ever had?
I use to work at a flower shop in High School. Let me say I don't care to receive flowers on Valentines or Mothers Day. We often had to work until 2:00 am filling orders.

What do you like to do when you're not at school?
I love to spend time doing anything with my family. We love to go to the lake, fish, workout, and laugh.
