Wildcat Wednesday Claudia Edwards

It's Wildcat Wednesday! On Wednesdays, we spotlight a member of the LR Wildcat family.

This week we are introducing you to Claudia Edwards!

-----------------------------

Job Title:
English language paraprofessional

Tell us about your family:
I am a single parent. I have five wonderful children, Cassandra, Edward, Catie, Aly, and Ariel. They all have attended and graduated from LRHS. I am also a blessed grandma of two beautiful grandchildren, Beckett, age 5, and Adley, 8 months.

How long have you worked for LR?
I have been with LR close to six years. I worked at the primary school for three years and the middle/high school for nearly three years.

What is your favorite thing about working for LR?
I love working with students of all ages; they inspire me to do better each day. I can make a difference in a student’s life. I love the school environment and the school faculty.

What is something about you that might surprise people?
I didn’t learn how to speak English until I was 16. I am from Mexico City, Mexico, and when I came to the US, the only words I knew how to say were, “hello”, “bye”, and “hammer.” The phrase that helped me get by my first weeks of high school was, “Me no speak English.”

What is your favorite quote?
I have two favorite quotes:
“If you really want to do something, you'll find a way. If you don't, you'll find an excuse.” -Jim Rohn

Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God.” Nothing in life comes easily; we must work hard to achieve our goals and dreams. I believe that after we have done everything within our power, we need to trust God to the rest.

What's the weirdest job you've ever had?
As a teenager, I had many odd jobs. I worked packing cookies, I rolled newspaper, cut fruit, and several other jobs. However, I found all my teenage year jobs weird due to the language barrier and being unable to communicate properly.

What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?
I would be a nutritionist.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
I would like to learn to speak Ukrainian and Russian.

What do you like to do when you're not at school?
I love spending time with my family, cooking, reading, and doing DIY projects.
