Letter to Families 1/19/2022

January 19, 2022

Dear LR Parent/Guardian,

The LR Board of Education approved revisions to the Return to Learn plan, including the following, which take effect immediately.

Protocol Regarding COVID-19 Symptoms/Cases:

Students and Staff who test positive for COVID-19 and never develop symptoms must be excluded from school for at least 5 days. Day 0 is the day of the positive viral test (based on the date of testing) and day 1 is the first full day after the specimen was collected for the positive test. Covid-19 test must be performed by a healthcare provider or a rapid antigen test performed by a school nurse.

  • If they continue to have no symptoms, they can return to school after at least 5 days.
  • On days 6 - 10, students and staff may return to school, but must properly wear a well-fitting mask. If students and staff are unable or choose not to wear a mask, they must continue to be excluded from school for 10 days.
  • If they develop symptoms after testing positive, the 5-day exclusion period will start over. Day 0 is the first day of symptoms.

Students and staff who have COVID-19 and have or had symptoms must be excluded from school for at least 5 days. To calculate the 5-day exclusion period, day 0 is the first day of symptoms. Day 1 is the first full day after their symptoms developed.

  • On day 6, students and staff may return to school if they are fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication and other symptoms have improved (loss of taste and smell may persist for weeks or months after recovery and need not delay the end of isolation).
  • On days 6 - 10, students and staff may return to school, but must properly wear a well-fitting mask. If students and staff are unable or choose not to wear a mask, they must continue to be excluded from school for 10 days.
  • If students and staff continue to have fever, or other symptoms have not improved after 5 days, they must continue exclusion until they are fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication and their other symptoms have improved.

If you have a student that has been excluded from school who now meets these criteria, please contact your child’s school as they may be able to return early from their current 10 day exclusion.
