It's Wildcat Wednesday! Every Wednesday, we will spotlight a member of the LR Wildcat family.
This week we are introducing you to Karen Stewart!

Job Title:
High School Spanish Teacher
Tell us about your family:
I'm moving through life solo now but I do have one fur child....my 'little' Shih Tzu, Snicklefritz. His name means mischievous child in German and unfortunately he lives up it!
How long have you been a teacher/worked in education?
I have been in public education for 31+ years. I also owned a daycare in Springfield that provided an early childhood education program for 65 children for 14 years.
What makes you passionate about education?
I would have to say the students. The energy and mindset they bring to the classroom is amazing and can't help but energize me. I just hope that I am making a positive difference in their lives...no matter how small it might be.
What is your must-have classroom item?
A room full of students who are ready to learn!
If you had to choose a different grade/subject to teach, what would it be?
It would be World Cultures.
What is something about you that might surprise people?
Having grown up in 'the business', I have an extensive background in retailing and have managed women's clothing stores, been a clothing buyer and assistant manager at a large anchor store at Battlefield Mall.
What is one item on your bucket list?
I would love to pick up where I left off in my traveling days. I've been to over 20 countries but there are still more I would like to see.
We’re so grafeful to have you as part of the Wildcat family, Karen!
