The PreK-8 literacy team met in December to discuss the district’s approach to writing instruction including spelling, word work, phonics, grammar, and mechanics. This area of focus was identified by teachers as a need. The team began the development of continuum of learning standards to reveal what is taught at each grade-level and when teachers should expect students have control over these expectations. The goal is to bring more clarity to the grade-level skills and build consistency across buildings as we continue to build a seamless literacy instruction and raise the level of rigor and expectations set for students’ reading and writing.
